Bicycle Program at Bellevue State Park -
Addition of Accessible Equipment
Accessible equipment will now be available for adolescents and adults to rent, free of charge, at the Bellevue State Park. The equipment will be available through a donation by the Rifton Company of Rifton, NY. This project is a collboration of Healthy Delawareans with Disabilities Project at the Center for Disabilities Studies, University of Delaware; the Governor's Advisory Council for Exceptional Citizens; the Delaware State Parks; the Bicycle Council of Delaware; the Developmental Disabilities Council; and the Delaware Office of Highway Saftey.
A press conference for this event was held on Tuesday June 16, 2009 at the Bellevue State Park located in Wilmington, DE. In attendence, were advocates who strongly supported this addition to Delaware State Parks. Also in attendence were consumers who finally had an opportunity to visit a State Park in Delaware and experience the opportunity to ride a bicycle. Pictures from this event are below.
We anticipate that this will be the beginning of recreational accessibility in Delaware.
